Is United State going against basic human instinct?
Tribalism it's an innate behavior we are born with. It is the instinct bonding people together, in groups, for more power, diversity and organization. Yet, it's the prime cause of "discrimination" in any form it has: sexism, racism, ageism, nepotism, lookism, speciesism, etc. "We follow instinct when we fail to use reason." Following our tribal instinct leads to discrimination gradually making us biased against any group/tribe of society we consider different from ours. The Webster dictionary describes it as "loyalty to a tribe or other social groups especially when combined with strong negative feelings for people outside the group".
With that said... Has the US been trying to accomplish the impossible? Are our instincts kicking in?
On September 9th, 1776 America was named The United States of America. We became "one" nation under God. People came from all over the world to be a part of this promise land. We tried cultivating a society where we saw each other as equals regardless of the color of our skin, faith, sex, professions.... We have considered ourselves to be one of the greatest democracies of all time and been an example to all.
So here is my question to all of you... How do you think we are doing? Are we United today? Are we making our forefathers proud? Are we more or less divided than ever? Or was what United States stood for a myth?
