Some time ago a smart person corrected me when I identified America as a Democracy. He said USA is a Republic – or Democratic Republic. I did not understand the difference so looked it up and he was right. You could also call us Representative Democracy but I do not think that is true today with < 50% voter turnout...
"United" States of America is what we call ourselves. A land where people come from around the world and all walks of life for better opportunities, to be treated as equals & fairly, to raise their children in a country they are proud of... Is that what we just say anymore or do we actually believe and practice what we where supposed to stand for as a Nation?
America the Great…… Why are we on the path to repeating the mistakes we've made? In the past 20+ years all the lessons we've learned from history, including basic ethics & civility have been forgotten in America – reverse evolution in practice.
24 days to Decision 2016 and we, the American people are down to this. There is a small possibility that we could have as our next President, the classic person who brings out the worst in us. A potential US President who constantly tells cheering republican crowds that America is terrible and all institutions developed in the last 250+ years are useless .
Democracy has to be nurtured and developed. We as Americans have enjoyed the fruits of democracy but other than our brave men and women in the military the sacrifices made by normal Americans to nurture democracy have been limited.
