Reverse evolution in practice
America the Great…… Why are we on the path to repeating the mistakes we've made? In the past 20+ years all the lessons we've learned from history, including basic ethics & civility have been forgotten in America – reverse evolution in practice.
We supposedly learnt that xenophobia is terrible and demeans us all. Internment of Japanese Americans during WW11 and other instances in our history being the key. But it is openly being advocated by the current republican nominee (Donald Trump) for president to thousands of cheering crowds.
We learnt from the Vietnam era that USA should militarily engage another country only with defined goals and clear exit strategy. This was fully understood and documented by C Powell. Then we invaded Iraq with no clear goal or exit strategy. It ended up being an even worse fiasco than Vietnam despite the heroic sacrifices, again, by our men and women from the armed forces and their families.
What about social history. History teaches us that too much power with one person leads to demise of nation and growing misery for the people. Just look around the world. Oh and the Republican nominee is fan of a totalitarian leader Putin – a leader whose main goal is demise of USA.
We now have a Republican candidate who again tells thousands of cheering supporters that he alone has all the answers and will do away with all institutions created over last 250 years. He exhorts that he alone can make America great – everyone else is inconsequential.
Women have come a long way last 50 years, and our current nominee shows open disdain for women which shames us all – especially men. We cannot accept that men are by nature mean spirited women haters as Trump suggests.
Are we also reversing to a banana republic mentality in politics? Trump’s classic totalitarian comment he makes is to jail his opponent once elected – we should all be so proud.
Also our Republican candidate talks about singling out ethnic groups and in case of Mexican Americans deporting 10+ million - supposedly in box cars. Just from a selfish point of view America – it will mean minimum $2 trillion loss of economic activity annually.
As I stated earlier, in a democracy people deserve the leaders they get and our open acceptance of malice towards political opponents last 15 years has lead us to Donald Trump.
